B-Root Statement on Responses
B-Root commits to respond to all productive DNS traffic. We filter out traffic we identify as non-productive or harmful as part of promoting good Internet operational practice, consistent with RSSAC-001 Root Service Expectations.
As of 2016, we may filter query traffic that shows evidence it is harmful to others, for example, if queries to B-Root appear to have spoofed source addresses that cause denial-of-service to a third party. We also may filter traffic that degrades the service we offer to others, for example, denial-of-service attacks on the B-Root operations.
The definition of non-productive traffic may evolve in the future as the traffic mix and threats change. We will post updates here should our policies change.
